The Leaf
Lying alone in the
ruffling sharp blades of grass, it billows around along with its peers fearlessly.
Crunch! One of its picayune companions has disintegrated into ashes of miniscule
particles. The wind directs it into another course which leads it to a new safe
niche in a corner hidden behind a bush. My
eye catches its attention and I examine it carefully. Murky brown yet exuberant
in texture. Due to the radiating heat that strikes down upon its soft fragile
body, its sheathing concealment creates creases and caves inwards. A beautiful
yet dirty appearance of the leaf creates an illusion to the naked eye. The
grainy enclosed casing creates a rough yet appeasing touch to the finger as it
caresses over in sluggish and delicate motions. My pupils focus intently and
become engrossed in its diminutive details. The subtly thin and dim veins make
their own routes like millions of different highways leading to a new
destination. Three arms stand as a silhouette and stand united like siblings
that stay close to each other and are the main system for protection. Yet, the weather wears them down into an
impenetrable state and makes them desperate to rest upon each other’s shoulder
as one of them flakily relies on its last ligament of support. As the rest of the lethargic members come into
a closer proximity to each other, they seem to be in their last stages of life.
Cracks warmly embrace the fragile skeleton that creates the simple yet
misleading impression of nature with its macabre appearance expressing how the
world’s beauties aren’t always as beautiful as they seem. Snap! The vine like stem
of support breaks off and becomes disowned from the family leaf. As my eyes
escalate to a higher elevation and remove the sight of the delicate flaws of
nature, perceptible small holes pierce through the elusive surface.
As the dangerous world engulfs and smothers it
with its harmful influence, the leaf fractures down vigorously bit by bit and
the family is destroyed with nothing left and in the next instant, a new member
is about to arouse.
